After evading an attack by the Cleaners in his apartment, Max tracks Mona to an abandoned funhouse and learns that the Cleaners are after anyone who knows about the secret society, the Inner Circle. ![]() Lem claims that Gognitti is trying to monopolize the black market gun trade and sees Lem as a threat. He then heads to a restaurant owned by Lem and rescues him from their mutual enemy Vinnie Gognitti (Fred Berman), who has since become the underboss of the New York Mafia. Max discovers that the warehouse was attacked by a group of hitmen called "the Cleaners", and is surprised to run into Mona Sax ( Wendy Hoopes), who he thought had died two years ago. One night, he is called on to investigate a gunfight at a warehouse owned by his old ally, Russian mobster Vladimir Lem (Jonathan Davis), who has since become a wealthy and powerful crime boss. Two years after the events of the first game, Max Payne (voiced by James McCaffrey) has been reinstated in his old job as a police detective for the NYPD. Plot Ĭomic panels are used as cutscenes to provide plot exposition in the game AI companions can occasionally come to Max's aid, although their deaths do not affect the gameplay or story. The combat system has been improved for Max Payne 2 the player can arm Max with a secondary weapon such as a grenade or Molotov cocktail, and when near an enemy, Max can pistol whip them. When the maneuver is performed, Max jumps in a direction specified by the player, and although bullet time is activated while Max is in mid-air, this will not deplete the bullet time meter. To simulate the bullet time effect, Max can also execute a shoot-dodge maneuver. The meter will eventually increase when not in use, and can be replenished quickly by killing enemies. When in use, the bullet time meter will decrease until it is either empty or the player disables bullet time mode. In this mode, the screen's color changes to a sepia tone to act as a visual cue. Max Payne 2 allows the player to enable bullet time, a mode that slows time, while still allowing the player to aim in real-time, to give the player more time to determine what they want to do. The Dead Man Walking mode places Max in one of five scenarios, in which he must survive for as long as possible while fighting off endlessly respawning enemies. In New York Minute, the player is given a score based on the time taken to complete each level. Two special game modes are also activated: New York Minute and Dead Man Walking. After completing the game once, other difficulty levels are unlocked. For example, if the player's character dies too many times, the enemies' artificial intelligence is made less effective, while more health in the form of painkillers is made available. When first played, the game offers one difficulty level that is adjusted automatically if the game is too difficult for the player. To move the game along, the player is told what the next objective is through Max's internal monologue, in which Max iterates what his next steps should be. As they progress, players access weapons including other handguns, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and hand-thrown weapons. ![]() Initially, the player's weapon is a 9mm pistol. Max Payne 2 is a third-person shooter, in which the player assumes the role of Max Payne, and plays as Mona Sax in a few levels. A sequel, Max Payne 3, was released in 2012. Max Payne 2 received several industry awards, including Outstanding Art Direction at the Golden Satellite Awards 2004, and Editors' Choice Awards from GamePro, IGN, and GameSpy. Despite the positive reception, the game sold poorly, leading Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive to cite Max Payne 2 's sales as a cause for the company's reforecast finances of 2004. Max Payne 2 received highly positive reviews from critics, with praise focused on its action and story, while criticism targeted its short length. Max Payne 2 continues the story of the titular character, a detective for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and former vigilante, as he is reunited with contract killer Mona Sax and must work with her to resolve a conspiracy full of death and betrayal. It is the sequel to Max Payne (2001) and the second game in the Max Payne series. Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is a third-person shooter video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar Games in October 2003. ![]()

![]() ![]() And so I've just spent some time pondering what those words even mean, and I still don't have a damn clue, but I know I feel it and it scares the shit out of me. And I am pretty confident I feel exactly the same way, although bringing myself to say it might take some time. Its difficult for me to write let alone imagine. I was freaking out and so was he, and so we had a very long talk (which lasted until 3 in the morning), during which he told me. Wednesday night we spent a good amount of time together, and at one point it began to turn a bit for the worse. And I guess I should tell you why, aside from the fact that he is my boyfriend, that he has been on my mind so much. I have been having a hard time keeping my mind off of my wonderful boyfriend. ![]() ![]() So I shall spend my last precious moments in Delco (for a few weeks that is) writing on this blog. Perhaps its because I have some nice new music playing, or maybe its that I want to avoid the Calculus studying that I should be doing instead. However, today I am feeling inspired enough to. I know I should have written sooner, but I've been very lazy lately. And find people who will help you to do so. Don't try and fucking sugarcoat life, just take what you've been given and make the best of it. So for those of you out there going through some tough times, know that you are understood by others. We each can interpret things any way we desire, but the beauty of art is often looking for the brightness in something that seems dark. The other, an agoraphobic manic depressive who is almost old enough to leave, but too scared to, notes that the road ends and that every work of art has borders, limiting freedom. One, an artist, swore it was about freedom noting the birds flying away. Possibly my favorite scene from this movie involved an argument between two characters over the meaning of this painting. It will really make all the difference in a world that is so ignorant of its own shortcomings. But, if I do happen to, on a day when I'm feeling just a bit crazy, I hope to know to reach out to someone, a friend. I will most likely never read it again, because even writing it makes me feel uncomfortable. I really don't know why I'm writing this post. However, the ones that do reach out are the ones that recover. The characters in this film either open up or seem to fall apart, vanishing deeper into themselves. Oftentimes what we need is someone to listen. I think everyone has a little bit of crazy in them. And although the film isn't necessarily a happy one, it is slightly hopeful, with its promise of freedom, pulling a motif out of Van Gogh's "Wheat Field with Crows." I think that that's truly what everyone wants. They just want a place to feel safe, to be listened to or understood. The thing that I find striking is how easy it is to relate to the characters, regardless of how troubled they are. It was very much in the style of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' in that the lead feels like an outsider, who does not belong in the outside world, and who sure as hell will not admit to belonging in an institution. depression, mania, night terrors, or just a nasty penchant for fighting. He meets an interesting cast of characters, who all seem normal enough, but each is plagued with some sort of psychological problem. It was called 'Manic' and it stars Joseph Gordon Levitt as an enraged teenager sent to a mental institution for troubled teens in order to help curb his anger. Today I laid around for a while, and just happened to turn on a movie. ![]() ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() This landmark remains a masterly work, fully deserving of its reputation. TV documentaries have been made of the actor's screen tests. Such anecdotes, the legends (Brando did wo? stuff his cheeks with cotton, but had resin blobs clipped to his back teeth Sinatra, universally believed to be the model for crooner Johnny Fontane, did attack Puzo in a restaurant, calling him a "stool-pigeon"), the footnotes (the baby being baptised during the climactic murder binge is Coppola's infant daughter Sofia), and the postscripts (Brando sending "Satcheen Littlefeather" to reject his Oscar) are so abundant that there are volumes of Godfather lore and trivia. Italian immigrants' descendants, whose assimilation and Americanisation has been complete, view with nostalgic yearning the Corleone clan happily pounding down their pasta together, celebrating and sorrowing together at the weddings, the baptism, and the inevitable funeral. Original protests by Italian-Americans who deplored being defamed en masse (the Sons Of Italy, The Italian-American Anti-Defamation League and its champion Frank Sinatra, who raised funds to campaign against the film) have been overshadowed ever since the film's release by its popularity within that same ethnic group. Ironically real Mafiosi later embraced the film, paying assiduous court to its principals to this day and affecting the language and style of Vito, Michael, Sonny, their lieutenants and soldiers. ![]() The words Mafia, Cosa Nostra, camorra and the like never occur in the film because Paramount producer Al Ruddy was paid a little visit by Joe Colombo, one of the heads of the real "five Families", and nervously promised the crime syndicate would be referred to in non-Italian terms. But, he says, "for justice we must gotoDonCorleone." Puzo introduced the term godfather, now synonymous with crime family bosses. "I believe in America," are the first words in the film, spoken by the undertaker Bonasera, an immigrant proud of his assimilation and enrichment. In adapting the book with Puzo, Coppola had a darker, ultimately more profound take: "I looked at it as the story of aking with three sons." It is pulp fiction turned into opera, an epic of gangster patriarchy, of family, of America itself. And also I made them out to be good guys except they committed murder once in a while". Fingering the story's irresistability, Mario Puzo's best-selling novel was, the author considered modestly, "A great combination, the family story and a crime story. Not since Warner Brothers' crime cycle of the 30s had the underworld so captured the public imagination. People are still cheering scene after scene in one of the greatest American films ever made, and committing chunks of dialogue to memory - like the goons in TV's The Sopranos who adore Godfather impersonations and businessmen like Tom Hanks' bookseller in You've Got Mail who explains to Meg Ryan that The Godfather is the font of all wisdom for the modern man. I cheered inwardly at scene after scene." He perked up when Frank Capra wrote to him, claiming it was, " Out of this world. He had only been given the film after a lengthy wish-list of veterans including Otto Preminger, Elia Kazan, Fred Zinnemann and Franklin Schaffner turned it down. At the time the director, Francis Ford Coppola, was holed up in a hotel writing the screenplay for The Great Gatsby, a job he took to relieve his financial problems because he believed in his movie. Shortly after its premiere in 1972 Variety reported, "The Godfather is an historic smash of unprecedented proportions". It made stars of Pacino and Caan, won Oscars for Picture, Screenplay and Brando, in a triumphant comeback. It was the first event movie of the 70s, the one multitudes queued up to see, the one whose dialogue, characters and imagery instantly became ingrained in the collective consciousness. Eventually he inherits his father's mantle as syndicate big shot and family head, the film ending with a chilling shot of the door closing on his uncomprehending WASP wife as Michael Corleone receives the homage "Godfather". When his father is gunned down, however, he commits murder and is inextricably bound by ties of blood, heritage and "honour" to a course of vendetta and power ruthlessly maintained through fear. A son returns from war and doesn't want to get mixed up in the family business: organised crime. ![]() ![]() The chorus is a direct interpolation of The Romantics‘ hit “ Talking In Your Sleep” and there’s some nice filtering at the beginning making this a great choice to open up an R&B set with. The house influence shines through hear as well, with the heavy kick drum and clap rhythm providing a solid foundation over which prominent samples of the Tears for Fears classic “ Pale Shelter” are placed. “Secrets” has become one of my favourite tracks on this album. The record’s mood shifts to an up-tempo vibe on “Rockin'” which wouldn’t sound out of place in a set of garage house with old-school synth stabs and clear classic house feel. The lyrical references to another night of hard drinking and cocaine permeate the track and seque right into the rock-influenced “False Alarm”. “Party Monster” follows and this is probably the closest we find to the Weeknd going back to his Beauty Behind the Madness sounds with an intoxicated-sounding sonic backdrop and repeated refrain “ woke up by a girl, I don’t even know her name“. Nevertheless, it is a strong R&B opener and Daft Punk’s appearance, while admittedly understated, certainly lends an air of credibility to not only the track, but the album as a whole. ![]() The title track and lead single was met with mixed reactions from fans of both the Weeknd and Daft Punk, many stating that this was the wrong direction for the French duo to go in and that their vocals efforts were lacking when paired with the Weeknd and his incredibly powerful voice and lyrical abilities. While the album lacks the dark, atmospheric feel of its predecessor, there are numerous moments of pop brilliance and the record definitely has some house influence to it, which may or may not be the result of working with electronic music masters (and my heroes) Daft Punk on the two tracks that open and close the album. Rather than rush to provide a review of this album, I’ve taken the approach of listening to the disc over the last few days and allowing it to grow on me. It’s setting records too, including being streamed well over 36 million times in the first 24 hours of its release on Spotify breaking the previous record held by fellow Canadian Justin Bieber. A little over a year since the release of his mind-blowing major label debut Beauty Behind the Madness, Starboy has been eagerly anticipated and there’s no question that the hype machine has been in overdrive ever since the album was first announced. Please, feel free to reflect everything whenever you want! A mixtape would be fine again, just like when he started. The Weeknd can do no wrong, it appears. ![]() Never! He can bring back that deeper part of himself anytime he wants. Now, he says its too late for him and we should give up. In the darkness, there was this hope that things could change and get better maybe. ![]() Anyway, we core Weeknd fans just aren't sure what to do with this newly super confidant, resigned to his destruction Starboy. So now, we mix that new exploratory Weeknd, with more fame & ego, and old Weeknd. How'd we get from "Thursday" to here? He found this more sincere part of himself on BBTM with Earned It, and it was his first #1 single. I guess all his one night stands get him on " A Lonely Night" but he will also die for someone? Is that person Valerie? :D I'm just not sure. "Twenty-Eight", anyone? Now, his music is a little confusing. He himself is a little of the same, but his behavior communicated through the music used to carry a strong undertone of regret and confusion regarding his actions with women. It was a very good tribute, people dont know that. Now mind you, this album is a tribute to David Bowie & Prince, which Weeknd is no stranger to showing respect to those that came before him (D.D from Trilogy is still my favorite one to date). I applaud him for that, and since every song on the album debuted on the Billboard hot 100 at the same time I'd say its working. As he says in the title track, he "switch out his style & take any lane," very clearly refusing to limit himself. The artist we see now is much more exploratory than when he debuted, "False Alarm" should be all the proof anyone needs. The Weeknd has talent! Amazing talent that makes it impossible for him to put out a truly bad album, especially since his core subject matter ( his voice, sex, love like themes, drugs, mistrust, money now, & more sex) are ever present. At first the singing was kind of creepy and alluring, but now its more open and inviting. ![]() Why? The Weeknd's career from Trilogy to Starboy is like a creature crawling out from under the bed in the dark, to now laying in the bed with the lights on. Why? The Weeknd's career from Trilogy to Starboy is like a Solid 9 on production creativity (Shout out to Daft Punk!) but a strong 8 overall.
